What is ethnicity?

A broad term which incoroporates language, nationality, religion and traditions. It may also incorporate the geographical origins of someone and a common identity. For example; black men use 'common descent' or the 'black man' persona to emphasise their pride.

What are ethnic minorities and when did they begin to arrive?
|
Ethnic minorities are those who with either a foreign or mixed ethnicity, that live in the UK as a minority group to White British people. Many say that ethnic minorities began to arrive in the 1950s and 60s. When Afro-Caribbean people started to arrive.

What is ethnic identity?
|
A person's ethnic identity incorporates their ethnicity and nationality. Most see ethnic identity among ethnic groups as something that is chosen by the next generation which stems from a number of influences. For example; someone's ethnic identity may overlapp their nationality and ethnicity if they have asian parents but live in the UK.

What is national identity?
|
An identity chosen by someone who associates themself with a particular country, region or community. For example; British national identity is influenced by living on an island country, two world wars that have been won and a long history of British sport.

What could cause a decline in national identity such as British?

-Globalisation is now the ultimate influence over our identity.
