Why did Sherman decide to use total war against the South?
|
So the southerners would give up. The North destroyed any resources the Confederacy could use to fight, stole food & killed livestock. They wrecked factories & railroad lines and burned homes & barns.

|
Lee's army was getting weaker. They had no more soldiers, food or money. They were tired and hungry.
