They were mostly soldiers. They werent very respected though

A lot of women took up men's jobs like factory workers or managing farms etc.. They also worked as spies and nurses to wounded soldiers

Peace democrats wanted to negociate with the south vs. those who are pro-lincoln. Inflation (more of a problem in the south). Volunteers were scarce, they had to make draft laws.
