What is Social Psychology? |
Study of how behaviour is influenced by the presence, attitudes and actions of other people. |
|
What do social psychologists do? |
Using psychological research methods, they investigate things such as: the effects of culture on our behaviour, what happens when we join groups, why we help others (and why we don't) as well as the origins and mechanics of prejudice and obedience. They develop theories to explain observed behaviour and gather data to test those theories. |
|
What is a hypothesis? |
A specific testable prediction about what you expect to find after analysing the data from your participants. |
|
What is obedience? |
Following an order given by a person with recognised authority over you. |
|
What is Milgram's Agency Theory? |
A way of explaining obedience. Milgram proposed that human behaviour evolved to include the tendency to obey because rule based behaviour enables stability in a complex human society. |
