John Winthrop
|

|
Williams was a minister from Salem. He believed the Puritan church should be separate from the colony’s government. In 1635 Puritan leaders forced him to leave Massachusetts.

Anne Hutchinson
|
Hutchinson questioned the teachings of the church. She held her own religious meetings in her home. She was forced to leave Massachusetts in 1637 and joined with Williams to form Rhode Island Colony.

King Philip was the name the colonists used for Metacomet, the leader of the Wampanoag. In 1675, disagreements over land led to war between the colonists and the Native Americans.

|

What goods did New England import and export?
|
Ships left New England ports carrying lumber, dried fish, whale oil, furs, and grain. Ships returned with tea and spices. They also brought goods made in England, such as shoes, clothing, tools, and paper.

|
Millions of enslaved Africans were placed on ships and forced to travel across the Atlantic Ocean from Africa to the English colonies, this trip was called the middle passage.
