What is deviance
behavior that is recognized as violating expected rules and norms or not sanctioned
Why does deviance exist?
Functionalism- to show what behavior is acceptable.
Conflict Theory- so the powerful can remain in power
Symbolic Interaction- so people can be labeled and the norms can be established
