Quit services. Pharmacotherapy. Address barriers to quitting like stress, weight gain, lack of support.

Arrange

Arrange a meet up and support.

Gum

6-10 4mg (4-8 weeks taper use to 2mg, then reduce use over another 4 weeks)OR 8-12 2 mg

Lozenges

Weeks 1-6: 1 lozenges every 1-2 hr, 24 a day


Weeks 6-9: 1 lozenge every 2-4 hrs


Weeks 10-12: 1 lozenge every 4-8 hrs


Weeks 12-24: As needed.

Films

Each film is 2.5mg, 15 films a day

Risks of NRT and stopping smoking

Catecholamines can affect carbohydrate metabolism and vasoconstriction may reduce insulin absorption. Smoking reduces insulin absorption, therefore stopping smoking can cause increased absorption and risk of hypoglycaemia!


Increased risk of adverse effects in hepatic conditions. Stopping smoking speeds up metabolism of warfarin, clozapine etc.

Empowering them! In the middle of action - help them keep it up.

Encourage positive changes, focus on issues that might cause relapse.
