Hello my name is Barrington Harvey & I am here to discuss the progressive problem known as cigarettes . What if I told you that tobacco kills one person every ten seconds ? would you believe me ?
There are 10 million cigarettes sold every minute. if ten million cigarettes are sold a minute & god gives us 60 minutes in a hour and 24 hours a day. how many cigarettes do you think are sold a week ? 1 person guess.105 billion cigarettes are sold a week! there's about 4 weeks in each month right ? that leaves us with four hundred twenty billion cigarettes a month! ill stop there because a year would be too much.
Cigarettes have tons of harmful chemicals in them, including ammonia (found in toilet cleaner), carbon monoxide (found in car exhaust) and arsenic (found in rat poison).
On a daily basis teen's our age and adults smoke. maybe to relive stress or whatever their reason maybe but did you know that these are all cancer causing compounds?
Each year cigarettes kill more people than, Aids, Drug abuse, car accidents and homicide combined. with a total of 5 million deaths a year.
smokers who smoke a pack a day will take of 53 days off of their lives and those who smoke two packs a day will lose 106 days off of their lives. On average smokers die 10 years earlier than non smokers.
Even those who don't smoke stand a good chance of dying. How many of you are familiar with the term second hand smoke ? May I ask you to define it ?
On average fifty four thousand people die for second hand smoke. Think about your close family members and friends. They could die just from inhaling another persons bad decision.
Now how to we fix this issue ? less that 1 in 10 smokers will kick their habit. So how do we go about saving the lives of those who don't take the initiative ?
Three words. Nationwide Government Ban. the death toll is projected to exceed 8 million deaths by 2030 if people continue to smoke tobacco products.
Tobacco industries spend 15.3 billion on tobacco marketing and promotion. We have homeless people in this country that cant even find 5 cents to put towards their next meal yet tobacco industries can spend so much money on the advertisement of something that will kill its user.
Shutting down tobacco companies will open the door for other good deeds, we can feed the needy and fund other charities with the money that we give to tobacco companies we can save money on medical expenses throughout the Us. Cigarettes cause nothing but pain and death.
A Nationwide Government Ban will help save the lives of our future Americans and help increase the life expectancy of those who throw out the cigarettes that they own. Over time this will better our growth as a nation.
