Slave ships very crowded. Slaves had to be silent or get beat. Slaves of all ages on board. Small children to elderly. Usually only width of shoulders. Very narrow. Large kettles on deck to cook for cargo. Hardly any fresh air and sunlight get to slaves. Stench was extremely bad. Could barely breath in far corners. Many in far corners almost dead cause of no air. Many emaciated. Lot of them die. Women and men all captured. Some had gun on deck to fire at ships trying to stop slave transport. Had to lay in each other's laps. Over 500 packed each trip.
