A primary lesion. A discoloration on the skin's surface, they are flat areas and are usually rounded but can be irregular and/or have edges that fade into surrounding tissue.
Macule
A primary lesion. A solid formation above the skin, often caused by an insect bite or an allergic reaction. It's sharply defined or solid, raised pink swelling or welt that rises above the skin.
Wheal
A primary lesion. An elevation of the skin, usually inflammatory that does not contain pus. If it is allowed to progress it can become a pustule
Papule
A primary lesion. A small inflamed elevation, the next step in the progression of a papule
Pustule
A primary lesion. A fluid filled elevation in the skin caused by a localized accumulation of fluids or blood just below the epidermis.
Vesicle
A primary lesion. A solid mass within the skin. It may be soft or hard, fixed or freely moving.
Nodule or Tumor
A primary lesion. An abnormal membranous sac containing a gaseous, liquid or semi solid substance
