1830-94, home educated studying RE texts, classics, novels, fairy tales were her whole education. many artists, rich to start. dad was blind, TB ect and they became poor. died when she was 24. |
2 a)nervous breakdown at 14 and suffered depression. engaged twice but didn't marry. volunteered at charity for ten years for fallen women-may have came from this. dante- influenced but more so john keats.

the caesura reflects frustration. negative language e.g. lurked spied. sister maude's fault. |

3) sister caused the death and pain for everyone. even if poet didn't live he wouldn't have went for sister. sister was jealous so told father. (1st interp)

4) para is capital as it is heaven. mother and fter may go to heaven but maude will not ret in this life or next 'early or late' she will go to hell. sis shall sleep- condemning maude.

5) crow is idea they will go to heaven. poet may even get in with lover-suggests they have no blame-but poet would know they're not-debate over who her love is. sister maude will burn in hell.

corpse is father- father died in fight with lover or in shock 'cold he lies'-a he. worthy of a queen's embrace- the wife wears a crown later on. if made didn't tell him he wouldn't have died. they're both sad as dad died |
7 b) is my beloved and i knocked at heaven's gate-both still alive. poet's father died early.

8) gay relationship-gender never given of voice. punishable by death. shame would be the sin-homosexual romance. deserving of great woman but he's gay. wouldn't look as maude if he wasn't born bc he's gay. more far fetched.
