Annual review procedure |
The department will conduct annual sick leave reviews. If the member has exceeded the allowable adjusted hours or established a pattern of abuse, a supervisor will conduct a counseling session with the member on sick leave usage. For a 56hr employee 96hrs per fiscal year. Counseling NOT kept in members file. Members sick leave will now be reviewed on a quarterly basis. |

Quarterly Review Procedure |
56hr member may only use 24hrs in a three month period following counseling. If a member's sick leave usage exceeds the allowed hrs, progressive discipline will apply. A letter of understanding will be issued, informing the member a written physician's statement will be required for all sick leave usage in the following three month period. |

Family Sick Leave |
1. 56hr employees are allowed 72hrs per fiscal year. 2. Not authorized for child care. |

Child Birth |
1. Family sick leave can be used by the member to be present at the birth of a child if a written physician statement is provided for a specific amount of time, not to exceed 72hrs for the fiscal year. 2. The department will allow the member to bond with the child for a maximum of 12 weeks after birth. The member may use any and all holiday leave accrued. If a member has exhausted the current year's holiday leave and the following year's leave a special request for other types of leave to be used may be made to the fire chief. |
