Koch's Postulates
1) 1 microbe always assoc w/ 1 disease
2) the microbe can be recovered and grown in pure culture
3) pure culture must cause disease in experimental animals
4) original microbe must be recovered from the animal in which disease was introduced
Problems with Koch's Postulates
1) Mycobacterium Leprae (leprosy) requires animal host
2) Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonorrhea) only in human host
3) Opportunistic Pathogens - Immunocompromised host!!!
