Ethosuximide
Mech: Block the T-type Ca channel
Use: 1st line drug for absence seizures
Tox: EFGHIJ
-Ethosux
-Fatigue
-Gi prob
-HA
-Itch
-steve Johnson syndrome
Benzodiazapine:
Lorazepam + diazapam
MECH: increase in GABAa receptor
Use:
First line tx acute status epilepsy
Can also be used with eeclampia seizures (prefer MgSO4)
Tox: Sedation and Resp Depression, tol/dep
PHenytonin

Fosphenytonin(parternal)
Mech: Inactivate Na channels; 0 order kinetics
Use:
1st line for tonic seizure
1st line prophaliatic for status epi
partial simple and complex
Tox: SLE syndrome, increase p450, steve johnson, and tetranogen
Carbamazepine
Mech: inactive Na Channel
Use:
1st line partial simple, partial complex and tonic seizure
1st line for trigeminal neuralgia
Tox: Tetranogeesis, Steve johnson syndrome, increase p450 and blood dyscasia (agranulocystosis and aplastic anemia)
Valporic Acid
Mech: Inactivate Na Channel in addition to inhibiting GABA transaminase hence increase in GABA conc.

Use:
1st line: tonic
simple,complex partials
abscense
Tox: Do not use in prego (neurotube defect), GI prob
GABApentin
MECH: gaba analog that inhibits high voltage Ca channels

Use:
partial's simplex, complex
tonic

Tox: ataxia and sedation
Phenobarbitual
Mech: Increase in GABAa receptor

use: partial's simple, complex and tonic

Tox: Similar to benzo's
Sedation, dep and tol, cardiopul depression
Topiramate
Mech: Incrase GABA = block Na channel

Use: same as phenobarbitual

Tox: kidney stones
Lamotrigine
Mech: block Na volt channel

Use: same as phenobarbituate and absesce

Tox: steve johnson.
Levetiracetam
Tx: same as phenobarbitua
tigabine
mech: increase gaba conc by inhibit reuptake
use: partial's simple and complex
vigabatin
Mech: increase gaba conc by irreversibly inhibiting GABA tarnsaminase

Use: partial's simple and complex.
Barbituarates

Phenobarbituate, pentobarbitual, thiopental.
Mech: Increase in GABAa, increase DURATION of Cl channels --> decresae in neuron firing.

Use: partial's simple and complex (phenobarbituate)/ anxiety/ anathesia (thiopental)

Tox: Cardioresp depression, induced p450, tol and dep, sededation (cns depression)

Contra: polyphoraia
repaire: with overdose.
Benzodiazapam
(diazapam and lorazepam)
MECH: Increae GABAa allowing increase in FREQUENCY of Cl channels
-long 1/2 life unless you're triazolm, oxazepam, midazolam = more addictive

Use: Acute status epilepsy, anxiety, general ana.

Tox: resp depression (not as much as barbituate), sedation and tol/dep, increas in p450

Repari: flumazenil (antag gaba)
Nonbenzo hypnotics.
Zolpidem, Zaleplon, Eszoliclone
Mech: binds to sub GABA BZ1. Short duration via liver meta

Use: insomina

Tox: MOdest day after psychomotor depression, low tol and dependence.
