valence electrons

The valence electrons (VE) are the electrons in the outer shell of an atom. The valence electrons are the ones involved in forming bonds to adjacent atoms.

electron dot diagram

Lewis structures (also known as Lewis dot diagrams, electron dot diagrams, Lewis dot formulas, Lewis dot structures, and electron dot structures) arediagrams that show the bonding between atoms of a molecule and the lone pairs of electrons that may exist in the molecule.

chemical bond

A chemical bond is a lasting attraction between atoms that enables the formation of chemicalcompounds. The bond may result from the electrostatic force of attraction between atoms with opposite charges, or through the sharing of electrons as in the so-called covalent bonds.

symbol

a thing that represents or stands for something else, especially a material object representing something abstract."the limousine was another symbol of his wealth and authority"

atomic number

Atomic number is the number of protons, and therefore also the total positive charge, in theatomic nucleus. The Rutherford–Bohr model of the hydrogen atom (Z = 1) or a hydrogen-like ion (Z > 1).

period

Period (from Greek περίοδος) or periodic may refer to: Era, a length or span of time. Full stop or period, a punctuation mark. A row of elements across the periodictable is called a period.

group

a number of people or things that are located close together or are considered or classed together.

family

Elements in the same column are called a group or family.

noble gas

Noble gas, noble gas [Credit: Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc.]any of the seven chemical elements that make up Group 18 (VIIIa) of the periodic table. The elements are helium (He), neon (Ne), argon (Ar), krypton (Kr), xenon (Xe), radon (Rn), and element 118 (temporarily named ununoctium [Uuo]).Nov 25, 2014

halogen

The elements in Group 17 are called the halogens. Atoms in thehalogen family have seven valence electrons

alkali metal

At the far left side of the periodic table is Group 1, called thealkali metal family. Atoms of the alkali metals have only onevalence electron. Except for lithium
