Symmetric and skewed distributions
a distribution is roughly symmetric if the right and the left sides of the graph are approximately mirror images of each other
Histogram
displays the distribution of a quantitative variable. the horizontal axis is marked in units of measurements. Histograms are drawn with no gaps to show equal width classes
Center
represented by finding a value that divides the observation so that about half take larger values and half take smaller values
a) the value called the median (skewed left or right)
b) could also be calculated the mean( average)
Outliers
individual pieces of data that differ from the overall pattern and suggest something special about an observation
Uni/Bi/Multi modal
graph of data has one two or multiple peaks
Spread
Tells us how much variability is in the data. described by giving the smallest and largest values or compute the range by subtracting the smallest number from the largest number.
Stemplot
Separates all data into
-stem (all but the last digit)
- leafs (the last digit)
Dot Plots
each data value is shown as a dot above its location on a number line
