what is the definition of a compressed gas.
any material or mixture having in the container a pressure exceeding 40psi at 70 degrees F or having a pressure exceeding 104 psi 130 degrees F or any liquid flammable material exceeding 40 psi at 100 degrees F.

What are the gases that have a liquid state in a tank?
Nitrous Oxide, and Carbon Dioxide
What gases are in a gas form in a tank?
Oxygen, Helium, and air
What is a rupture disc
At a predetermined pressure the disc ruptures to release pressure a to keep from exploding. Non reclosing,
What is a fusible plug?
Wood's metal, works with pressure and temperature to melt plug if the pressure and temp go too high in a tank. Non-reclosing.
Combination rupture disc/fusible plug...what is it?
a plug/rupture disc that prevents rupture at a predetermined pressure unless the temperature is also high. Doesn't prevent rupture from overfilling
What is a pressure relief valve?
a spring loaded device designed to reclose after normal pressure is restored.
What are the pin index locations of o2?
2, 5
What are the pin index locations of air?
1,5
What are the pin index locations of N2O?
3,5
What is the DISS
makes tubing non interchangeable to help prevent misconnections of gas tubings and connections. If it doesn't fit don't force it.
what does DISS stand for?
Diameter Indexed Safety System
What is a check valve?
It will close and prevent room air from entering system if the oxygen is off. If the o2 pressure is there it will stay open. Prevents hypoxia anoxia.
what is the pressure of the wall supply of o2
50-55 psi
What is the pathway through the machine...order of steps
1. N20/O2/other gas
2. flowmeters
3. concentration-calibrated vaporizer
4. common gas outlet
5. patient via the vent or circuit
What is the pressure of the wall supply of N20?
40-50 psi
What are the 5 tasks of O2?
1. power ventilator
2. supply o2 to flush valve
3. pressure sensor shut off valve
4. o2 supply failure alarm system
5. thru 2nd stage regulator to pt.
What is Bernoulli's principle?
flow through a constriction in a tube causes a flow velocity increase and lateral pressure exerted on the walls of the tube to decrease with in the constriction.
What is the venturi effect?
accounts for all fluids/gases that are viscious and that have friction used in anesthesia. When there is a hole in the constricted area it allows any fluid to be vaporized into the system because of the decrased pressure on the side of the tubes and the increased velocity in the constricted area above the hole. f
What is the APL valve?
The adjustable Pressure Limiting valve allows excess unused gas to enter the scavenger system to be discarded or it is closed to retain the unused gases in the rebreather bag for reused. REduces costs by using less gas.
