Chemical Energy
Energy potentially or actually liberated by a chemical reaction, also called heat of reaction. This energy may be converted to or from electrical energy, heat, or light. Normally, energy absorbed in chemical change is considered positive; energy released is negative.
Exothermic Reaction
a chemical reaction accompanied by the evolution of heat
Endothermic Reaction
a chemical reaction accompanied by the absorption of heat
Concentration
The amount of a particular substance in a given amount of another substance, especially a solution or mixture.
Catalyst
a substance that causes or accelerates a chemical reaction without itself being affected.
Alloy
A metallic substance made by mixing and fusing two or more metals, or a metal and a nonmetal, to obtain desirable qualities such as hardness, lightness, and strength. Brass, bronze, and steel are all alloys.
Enzyme
any of various proteins, as pepsin, originating from living cells and capable of producing certain chemical changes in organic substances by catalytic action, as in digestion.
