Parts of a microscope

Base- Supports the microscope and holds it in place.


Stage- Holds the slide or object you are looking at in place


Nose piece- Holds one or more lenses that can magnify an object.


Adjustment Knob- Helps you focus the lens.


Eye piece- contains a lens mounted on the end of an tube. You look through an object.

Safety in the lab

-follow all instructions carefully before you beginning an investigation.


-never work in the lab alone an adult should always be present.


- be careful with sharp objects


-If you break something made of glass tell your teacher IMMEDIATELY!


-If you get cut tell your teacher right away.


-never eat or drink anything during an investigation. Don't put anything in your mouth or other orifices, unless instructed to do so.


-don't use the lab equipment to drink from.


-if you have long hair pull it back out of the way


-roll up sleeves to keep them away from your work.


-wear safety goggles when instructed to do so - don't wear contact lenses when working in the lab.

Be careful with electricity

-Keep electrical cords out of the way


- Never pull the plug out of the outlet by the cord.


- Do Not use electricity near water or with wet hands.
