What is a manipulated variable?
The 1 factor that is changed in an experiment
What is a responding variable?
What is counted, measured or observed to determine the results of the experiment
What is a controlled variable?
The factors that are kept the same
What is a cell?
The smallest unit of life. Think Brick
(I.E. muscle in your heart)
What is tissue?
A group of cells that work together (think brick wall)
What is an organ?
A group of tissue that works together (think brick house)
What is a system?
A group of organs that work together. (think neighborhood)
What is an organism?
A complete living thing (think city)
What is a digestive track?
The path or tube that food travels through.
(I.E. Mouth, esphogas, stomach)
What is peristalsis?
The wave like movement that moves the food through digestive track
What is mucas?
A slippery substance that coats the inner walls of the digestive tract. Mucas helps the food move through the tract and protects the walls of stomach for ulcers
What is sphincters?
The ring of the muscles surrounding the openings and between the organs of the digestive track. These muscles control the flow and keep food moving in the right direction.
What is an indicator?
A Substance that detects the presence of a specific chemical. (I.E. Beaidicts solution turns orange within sugar. Lugal turns black with starch)
What is a carbohydrate?
One of the 3 basic food types. Found the form of sugar, starch or fiber comes from plants. (I.E. cereals, bread and vegetables)
What is a protein?
A basic food type made of amino acids. Builds tissue, repairs damage and makes heoglobin. (I.E. Meats, eggs, nuts and beans)
What is mechanical digestion?
Breaking down food into smaller pieces. (I.E. chewing and penistalsis)
What is chemical digestion?
Enzynes and digestive juices breaking down nutrients into smaller, simpiler forms that the boade can use. (I.E. Gastric juices breaks down protein into aminoacides
What is difusion?
Difusion is where liquid substance goes through a wall and mixes with the outside liquid. (I.E. Tea leaves)
