What is methylation?
Occurs in cytosine (the C in proteins), promotes growth of molecules so that RNA cannot translate to the genes.
What are transcription factors?
Where molecules are added in the promoter region of the gene, allowing for the RNA to transmit a message where it originally would not have.
What is cell differentiation?
The process by which less specialized cells become a more specialized cell type. For example, as humans develop, their cells and the cell's purposes change. In adults, this can be the creation of daughter cells in tissue repair.
What are the three steps of gene transfer?
1. Isolation of the gene
2. Make copies of the gene - remember PCR
3. The method used to insert the gene
In amino acid determinations, what does each letter translate to?
A=U
C=G
T=A
What are nucleotides composed of?
1. Sugar group
2. Phosphate group
3. Carbonate group
Why is transfer of DNA possible between seemingly unrelated organisms?
1. the basic structure of DNA is the same in all organisms
2. "meaning" of DNA (code of amino acids) is basically the same
3. Process of production of DNA is universal
