What are the 6 steps in the scientific method?
1. Recognize a problem/Ask a question
2. Research/Make observations
3. Form a hypothesis
4. Test hypothesis
5. Analyze data
6.Draw conclusions
(7. Share information)
What is the difference between comparing and contrasting.
Comparing is telling what two or more things have in common. Contrasting is telling how two or things are different form eachother.
What's the difference between an observation and an inference?
An observation is the use of your senses to gather information. An inference is an explanation of your observations.
What is the difference between science and technology?
Science is the knowledge gained by observing the natural world. Technology is what's helping scientists make organization easier, or is bringing leisure for anyone else.
What is an independent variable and where would you locate it on a graph?
An independant variable is the variable being changed. It can be found on the "x" axis of the graph.
What is the dependent vairable and where would you find it on a graph?
The dependant variable is the variable being observed or measured. It is graphed on the "y" axis of a graph.
What is a constant in an experimant?
It is a variable that is kept the same for all groups in an experiment.
What is a control in an experiment?
It is a same group that is treated life other experimental groups, but the independent variable is not applied.
What is a trial in an experiment and why should you do more than one?
A trial is one time through an experiment. You should do more than one because it gives you more accurate results.
What is the difference between a qualitative and quantitative observation?
A qualitative observation is an observation that uses your senses and they describe the quality of an object or situation. A quantitative observation is an observation that is expressed in numbers and they are needed to make an experiment more reliable.
What is a hypothesis?
An idea or explanation based on prior research or observations that can be tested.
What is a model and why do sceintists use them?
A model is a representation of an object or system. It helps sceintists communicate information that would be difficult to explain. They are also used to design complex objects, predict the weather, and study very small objects.
