What does P stand for?
the pressure a gas exerts
What is V
the volume a gas occupies
what is N?
the amount of gas in moles
what is a mole?
6.022 X 10 to the 23 molecules
What is T?
a measure of the random kinetic energy in a gas in Kelvin
What is Boyles Law?
P1V1 = P2V2
What are the bends?
pain or paralysis when nitrogen bubbles form in the blood
Why do astronauts, divers, and bridge workers get the bends?
Because they all go from high pressure to low pressure in their jobs
What is Charles Law?
v1/T1 = V2/T2
What are two ways to make a vaccuum ?
1. Take a trapped gas and expand the volume
2. Take molecules out of a closed space (i.e. fire in the flask)
How come you can't breathe through a snorkel at 10 feet below but u can breathe under a diving bell?
Because the pressure on ur chest at 10 feet is 1.3 atmos and the air ur breathing is 1 atmo so the pressure difference makes it impossible to breathe, but with a diving bell theres not a pressure difference
Pressure = ?
Force over area
What did we put into the rocket to make it fly?
Water and air (120 lbs/in2)
What makes the rocket fly?
The air pressure inside is greater than the air pressure outside
What is the equation involving pressure, temp, volume?
Pv = Nrt
