What is a mixture? |
A combination of two or more different substances. |
What is a homogeneous mixture? |
A homogeneous mixture is made up of two or more substances that can be distinguished just by looking at them (has more then one visible phase) |
What is a heterogeneous mixture? |
A heterogeneous mixture is made up of two or more substances that can be distinguished just by looking at them (it has more then one visible phase). |
Name an example foreach of the two previous question. |
Heterogeneous: soda in a cup (we see the liquid and gaseous phase). Homogeneous: tea we don't see the mixtures (liquid phase and dissolved tea particles) |
What is a solution? |
It's a homogeneous mixture in which one or more substances are dissolved in another substance. |
What is a solute? |
In solution the substances being dissolved is called a solute. There is less solute than solvent in a solution. |
What is a solvent? |
The substance that the solute is being dissolved in is called a solvent. There is more solvent than a solute in a solution. |
Can solution s be solid, liquid and gaseous? |
Yes. For instance kitchen sinks are made of stainless steel but it also contains chrone, nickel and some carbon as solutes. The sea and nitrogen for solid and liquid. |
What do we call a metal combined with another substance? |
An alloy. |
What is an aqueous solution? |
It's a solution that uses water as a solvent. For example the sea would be an aqueous solution. |
What are the techniques separating solids from liquids |
Decantation, centrifugation, filtration and evaporation. |
What technique are using gravity |
Decantation |
What is the fastest technique for separating mixtures |
Centrifugation |
What technique of separation is the opposite of evaporation |
Distillation |
What technique of separation is used to collect different liquids in liquid mixtures |
Distillation |
What instrument we use into decantation |
Separators funnel |
Name the type of mixture hetero or homo that works best into decantation |
Hetero |

Fill the blank with these words . solid, liquid, gas, mixture, particles An opaque ..... Is usually a .....in which you can see small .... |
Mixture, liquid, solid |
How many phases are into cereal with milk |
Two phases solid and liquid |
How many phases are into this container |
Two solid phases, white and blue powder |
Is a soda pops a heterogeneous or homogeneous mixture |
Heterogeneous |
What is a heterogeneous mixture |
Mixtures that contain several phases, made up of two or more substances that can be distinguished with our eyes. Have more than one visible phase. |
What is a homogeneous mixture? |
Has only one visible phase. Made up of two or more substances that cannot be distinguished with our eyes.bonly one visible phase. |
Explain why an orange is a mixture |
We see two phases |
How we called a metal combined with other substances |
Alloy |
Air is a solution, what is the solvent and what are the solute |
Solvent nitrogen and solute oxygen, carbon dioxyde |
What is a aquaous solution |
Solution that uses water as solvent |
What I am, I am a mixture with only one visible phase |
Homogeneous |
What is the type of solution of a bronze weapons, or saxophone |
Alloy |
