Cell Theory

Microscope basics

1. Use two hands to carry


2. If microscope doesn''t have built in lamp, adjust mirror to project light through stage to specimen.


3. Place slide on stage, select objective lens to lowest magnification.


4. Look from side, adjust coarse knob so objective lens is above not touching slide. Check direction you must turn to move objective lens away from slide.


5. Use coarse knob to bring specimen into view. Then fine focus knob to help to see more clearly.


6. Want high magnification, adjust objective lens to higher magnification.


7. Draw what seen using pencil.


8. Work out total magnification.


9. Write magnification next to sketch.


10. Label and date sketch

How to draw specimens under microscope

1. Use sharp grey lead pencil


2. NO SHADING, lines or dots only


3. Use quarter of a page no more no less, draw circle to represent viewing area.


4. Use clear labeling and scientific language.


5. Write specimen name, date and magnification outside circle. (don't label what you cant see)
