What is a genotype?
All the alleles of an organism's chromosomes.

Can refer to one or more genes.
What is a phenotype?
The observable traits and all characteristics of an organism.
What is heterozygous?
When the two alleles for a gene have different information.
What is homozygous?
When two alleles have the sam information.
What is dominant?
A genetic factor that blocks antother genetic factor.
What is recessive?
A genetic factor that is blocked by the presence of a dominant factor.
What is difference between Genes and alleles?
Gene: a section of DNA for a specific trait (eye color)
allele: each form of the gene that is different(brown, blue, green)
Whick helps explain Mendels law of heredity?
meiosis, mitosis,proteins, phenotypes
The movement of chromosomes during meiosis explains Mendels law of segregation and independent assortment
What organism did Mendell study?
Garden pea plants. He chose pea plants because they are easy to grow, reproduce quickly, come in many varieties and are edible.
What are 3 recessive genetic disorders?
1.cystic fibrosis
2.hemophelia
3. Down syndrome
How many alleles does a parent pass on to an offspring?
One
What is a punnett square?
A square that is used to predict the gentoypes and phenotypes of offspring.
Codominance
When both alleles can be observed in a phenotype.
Pedigree
Shows the genetic traits that were inherited by memvers of a family tree.
Polygenic inheritance
When multiple genes determine the phenotype of a trait.
