Crust
a layer of solid rock that includes both dry land and ocean floor
Basalt
A dark rock with a fine texture. The ocean crust is made of this type of rock.
Granite
A light colored rock with a coarse texture. This ock makes up the continental crust
Mantle
a layer of hot, solid rock that lies beneath Earth's crust. Has 3 like parts - litho, astheno & mantle
Lithosphere
a rigid layer made up of the uppermost part of the mantle and the crust
Asthenosphere
the soft layer of the mantle where the mitho floats. This layer of the Earth is soft - it can bend like plastic
Outer Core
a layer of molten iron and nickel that surronds the inner core. The outer core is a liquid.
Inner Core
A dense ball of iron and nickel at the center of the earth
Pressure
results from a force pressing on an area. Pressure inside the earth increases as you go deeper
Radiation
The transfer of energy through space. Heat transfer takes place with no direct contact between the heat source and object
Conduction
A heat transfer between materials that are touching
Convection
Heat transfer by the movement of heat within a fluid
Convection Currents
The movement of a fluid, caused by differenes in tempature, that transfer heat from one part of fluid to another
Density
is a measure of how much mass there is in a volume of substance.
