RHOMBOID MINOR
PLACEMENT: Deep to the trapezius
ATTACHED: At the root of the spine of the scapula to the SP's of C7-T1
FUNCTION: Draws the scapula toward the vertebral column and slightly upward
RHOMBOID MAJOR
PLACEMENT: Deep to the trapezius
ATTACHED: Inferior to the root of the spine of the scapula down to the inferior angle of the scapula to the SP's of T2-T5
FUNCTION: Retracts and elevates the medial border of the scapula toward vertebral column. Downwardly rotates the lateral border of the scapula
LEVATOR SCAPULAE
PLACEMENT: Superior to Scapula
ATTACHED: Posterior tubercles of TP's of C1-C4, to Superior angle of Scapula
FUNCTION: Elevates medial border of scapula
TRAPEZIUS
PLACEMENT: Superior back
ATTACHED: Occiput, Nuchal Ligament, and SP's of C7-T12
FUNCTION: Laterally rotates, elevates and retracts scapula. If scapula is fixed, extends and laterally flexes neck
SERRATUS ANTERIOR
PLACEMENT: Inferior to axillae
ATTACHED: Ribs 1-9 to anterior side of enitre medial border of the scapula
FUNCTION: Laterally rotates and protracts scapula
PECTORALIS MINOR
PLACEMENT: Deep to Pec. Major
ATTACHED: Ribs 3-5 to coracoid process of scapula
FUNCTION: Elevates ribs if scapula fixed, protracts scapula (assists serratus anterior)
