How do you solve a first order, linear differential equation?
Write out the step-by-step solution for a first-order, linear differential equation
Write out the step-by-step solution for a separable differential equation.
How do you evaluate the stability of a steady-state?
Compute the derivative of the differential equation with respect to y. Evaluate it at the equilibrium value of y (i.e. y*). If the result is greater than 0, then y is locally unstable. If the result is less than zero, then y is locally stable.

Note: This holds true when there are multiple equilibria. Simply apply the same test to each equilibrium to determine its local stability.
