What is bacteria
One-celled microorganisms with both plant and animal characteristics
Nonpathogenic Bacteria
Helpful or harmless and do not cause disease. Most bacteria.
Pathogenic Bacteria
Also called microbes or germs. Harmful and although in the minority, cause disease when they invade plant or animal tissue.
Staphlyococci
Pathogenic. Pus forming. Grows in clusters like a bunch of grapes.
Streptococci
Pathogenic. Pus forming. Arranged in curved line resembling a string of beads. Strept throat and blood poisoning.
Diplococci
Pathogenic. Sphericial bacteria that grow in pairs. Pneumonia.
Difference between viruses and bacteria
Viruses live only by penetrating cells and becoming part of them. Bacteria can live on their own.
