what is a strength of random sampling? |
it is representative of the target population as everyone has an equal chance of being selected meaning findings can be generalised |
What is a weakness of random sampling? |
It is much more time consuming and inconvenient than other sampling types such as opportunity sampling because information has to get gathered about everyone in the target population |
What is a strength of volunteer sampling? |
it is much quicker and less time consuming than random sampling as ppts come to the researcher if they want to take part |
What is a weakness of volunteer sampling? |
It is likely to be unrepresentative as people who volunteer for the study are likely to have similar personality traits therefore findings cannot be generalised |
What is a strength of opportunity sampling? |
It is a lot quicker and more convenient than other sampling types such as random as the researcher just picks people who they see there and then that are available |
What is a weakness of opportunity sampling? |
It is likely to be unrepresentative as all the participants will have similar characteristics eg class, wealth etc as they are all being gathered from the same place |
what is a strength of systemic sampling? |
It is likely to be representative as people have an equal chance of being selected and the researcher has no influence |
What is a weakness of systematic sampling? |
it could in theory be unrepresentative as every nth person in the sample may have a hidden characteristic making the sample unrepresentative of the target population and therefore not able to be generalised |
