what are the THREE methods of salt preparation? |
1. precipitation 2. crystallisation 3. titration |
|
precipitation steps (insoluble salts) |
(My Fats Will Disappear) 1. Mix aqueous solution A to aqueous solution B 2. Filter to collect the insoluble metal salt 3. Wash the metal salt with distilled water. (to remove impurities) 4. Dry between sheets of filter paper |
|
crystallisation (soluble salts) |
(A Fat Hot Cat Will Die) 1. Add excess solid to the measured volume of acid and stir 2. Filter the mixture to remove excess solid. 3. Heat the filtrate in an evaporating dish until a saturated solution is formed. 4. Cool to crystallise the salt. Filter off the crystals 5. Wash the crystals with distilled water. 6. Dry the crystals between sheets of filter paper |
|
titration (soluble SPA salts) |
(Please Advice. A rare hot cat will die.) 1. Pipette 25cm^3 of acid into a conical flask. 2. Add indicator to the flask 3. Add alkali from burette into flask until the colour changes 4. Repeat above steps without using indicator 5. Heat till saturated 6. Cool to crystallise, then filter off crystals 7. Wash crystals with distilled water 8. Dry between 2 pieces of filter paper. |
