Salsa refers to the barrio and the struggles of Latino people. There was a need for music that embraced their roots but with modern barrio identity of young Latinos.

“Pedro Navaja” (1978) Despite the trouble in the barrio these Nuyoricans are going to enjoy their time, despite the lyrics you notice there is a happy upbeat. The lyrics represent the daily lives in the barrio.
“Latinos En estados Unidos” Celia Cruz is stating that being Latin American is not a bad thing, it is who you are and you should embrace. Don’t be ashamed of being Latin.
