Who said "Our ancestors were guided by a cloud above them and they all passed through the sea. They were baptized into Moses in this cloud and in the sea" What does this quote mean? Which essay is this in?
Paul.
Cloud-Jesus originally would have seen it as the cloud that guided them by day and a pillar of fire that guided them by night. If we don't understand the Jewish roots, we won't unnderstand. This really refers to the Exodus. Leading people out of bondage and into the promise land. Essay 2
Shekinah
God's glorious presence within this cloud.
What is the Jewish POV about salvation?
They are the chosen people. Set apart by God. God rescues them.
What does it mean to be baptized into Moses?
Maybe he's saying they were immersed into the life of Moses who was a prophet chosen by God. God gave moses the 10 Laws/Commandments. Moses gives the commandments to the people so Paul says they're receiving salvation through Christ. Jesus is seen as another Moses.
In Syriac Christianity Christ means
Anointed one.
Jewish Proselyty
A non-Jew embraces the Jewish faith. They use a Mikveh washing. This was about being baptized into Moses to have the exodus experience of being chosen by God.
Mikeveh
Set apart and made holy for God. You are dunked under the water and when you come up you take a breath and breathe in the ruah or spirit.
Qadish
Means holy things. This is the Syriac word for sacraments. These are things we use as a holy people. These things set us apart for God. Jews don't say God's name ever, rather they say holy one or blessed one.
