Allopurinol: Reduced uric acid production by inhibiting xanthine oxidase; leading to increased amounts of more soluble xanthine and hypoxanthine. Cannot be given with probenecid, as it inhibits it's metabolism.
Probenicid: A uricosuric drug used to increase urinary excretion of uric acid; affects transporters in the proximal tubule. Used to decrease tophus deposits in patients who undersecrete uric acid. |
