Russia was civilized right about 863 ACE, the people that civilized Russia were East Slavics. When they became civilized they told their children stories and they told their children until it got written down. Most of the people that moved to Russia were East Slavic
Russian folktales are mostly about nature because they respect nature. In their stories animals help humans because Russians think animals are special. Animals communicate to humans because animals are usually magic in their stories. Some of the folktales tell you what they believe like a religious folltale. Some of the animals represent people because they Russians believe that they are special.
Russians passed down their folktales orally before they were civilized or a little bit after they were civilized. After a while they wrote down their folktales, but still orally passed down stories. The parents that tell children folk tales heard them from their parents, who heard it from their parents.
Their holidays are Christmas, Easter, and other christian holidays. They also celebrate immensly celebrate New Year's Eve because they think the new year is special. Christmas is on the 7th of January because Russians have a different calendar then us. They fast or don't eat our December 31st through January 3rd.
