3 levels of MORALITY OF KOHLBERG
1. Pre- convential morality- punishment and obedience to the parent are the determining factors
2. Conventional role-conformity: children try to conform to gain approval and to maintain good relationships with others (PEER ACCEPTANCE)
3. Self-accepted moral principles: children voluntarily comply with rules on the basis of a concept of ethical principles and make exceptions to rules in certain circumstances (from kid knowing stealing is wrong to when it is not wrong)

Abuse vs. dependence
Abuse- maladaptive pattern of substance use leasing to significant impairment or distress

Dependence= main difference from abuse is tolerance, withdrawal, and compulsive drug-taking behavior
Substance abuse/dependence risk factors?
– Family conflict
– Academic difficulties
– Comorbid psychiatric disorders
– Parental and peer substance use
– Impulsivity
– Early age of onset of cigarette smoking
