Romans 8 Translation

Front 1

1 Οὐδὲν ἄρα νῦν κατάκριμα τοῖς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ·

Back 1

So then [there is] now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus;

Front 2

2 ὁ γὰρ νόμος τοῦ πνεύματος τῆς ζωῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ ἠλευθέρωσέν με ἀπὸ τοῦ νόμου τῆς ἁμαρτίας καὶ τοῦ θανάτου.

Back 2

For the law of the spirit of the life in Christ Jesus set me free from the law of sin and death.

Front 3

3 τὸ γὰρ ἀδύνατον τοῦ νόμου, ἐν ᾧ ἠσθένει διὰ τῆς σαρκός, ὁ θεὸς τὸν ἑαυτοῦ υἱὸν πέμψας ἐν ὁμοιώματι σαρκὸς ἁμαρτίας καὶ περὶ ἁμαρτίας κατέκρινεν τὴν ἁμαρτίαν ἐν τῇ σαρκί,

Back 3

For the law being powerless, in that it was weakening on account of the flesh, God [did] sending his own son in likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin he condemned the sin in the flesh,

Front 4

4 ἵνα τὸ δικαίωμα τοῦ νόμου πληρωθῇ ἐν ἡμῖν τοῖς μὴ κατὰ σάρκα περιπατοῦσιν ἀλλὰ κατὰ πνεῦμα.

Back 4

in order that the righeous requirment of the law might be fulfilled in us who are not walking according to flesh but according to spirit.

Front 5

5 οἱ γὰρ κατὰ σάρκα ὄντες τὰ τῆς σαρκὸς φρονοῦσιν, οἱ δὲ κατὰ πνεῦμα τὰ τοῦ πνεύματος.

Back 5

for those who exist according to the flesh have understanding of the things of the flesh, but those [who exist] according to spirit [have understanding] of the things of the spirit.

Front 6

6 τὸ γὰρ φρόνημα τῆς σαρκὸς θάνατος, τὸ δὲ φρόνημα τοῦ πνεύματος ζωὴ καὶ εἰρήνη·

Back 6

For the mindset of the flesh is death, but the mindset of the spirit is life and peace;

Front 7

7 διότι τὸ φρόνημα τῆς σαρκὸς ἔχθρα εἰς θεόν, τῷ γὰρ νόμῳ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐχ ὑποτάσσεται, οὐδὲ γὰρ δύναται·

Back 7

because the mindset of the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not subject itself to the law of God, nor is it able [to be subject];

Front 8

8 οἱ δὲ ἐν σαρκὶ ὄντες θεῷ ἀρέσαι οὐ δύνανται.

Back 8

and those existing in flesh are not able to please God.

Front 9

9 ὑμεῖς δὲ οὐκ ἐστὲ ἐν σαρκὶ ἀλλὰ ἐν πνεύματι, εἴπερ πνεῦμα θεοῦ οἰκεῖ ἐν ὑμῖν. εἰ δέ τις πνεῦμα Χριστοῦ οὐκ ἔχει, οὗτος οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτοῦ.

Back 9

But you are not in flesh but in spirit, if spirit of God is living among you. But if someone does not have Christ's spirit, that one is not his.

Front 10

10 εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς ἐν ὑμῖν, τὸ μὲν σῶμα νεκρὸν διὰ ἁμαρτίαν, τὸ δὲ πνεῦμα ζωὴ διὰ δικαιοσύνην.

Back 10

But if Christ is among you, on the one hand the body [is] dead because of sin, but on the other hand, the spirit [is] life because of righteousness.

Front 11

11 εἰ δὲ τὸ πνεῦμα τοῦ ἐγείραντος τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἐκ νεκρῶν οἰκεῖ ἐν ὑμῖν, ὁ ἐγείρας [τὸν] Χριστὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν ζῳοποιήσει καὶ τὰ θνητὰ σώματα ὑμῶν διὰ τοῦ ἐνοικοῦντος αὐτοῦ πνεύματος ἐν ὑμῖν.

Back 11

but if the spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead is living among you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will make alive also your mortal bodies through the indwelling of his spirit in you.

Front 12

12 Ἄρα οὖν, ἀδελφοί, ὀφειλέται ἐσμέν, οὐ τῇ σαρκὶ τοῦ κατὰ σάρκα ζῆν·

Back 12

So then, brothers, we are not debtors to the flesh, to live acording to flesh,

Front 13

13 εἰ γὰρ κατὰ σάρκα ζῆτε μέλλετε ἀποθνῄσκειν, εἰ δὲ πνεύματι τὰς πράξεις τοῦ σώματος θανατοῦτε ζήσεσθε.

Back 13

for if you live according to flesh you will die; but if by spirit you put to death the actions of the body, you will live.

Front 14

14 ὅσοι γὰρ πνεύματι θεοῦ ἄγονται, οὗτοι υἱοὶ θεοῦ εἰσιν.

Back 14

For as many as are being led by God's Spirit, these are God's sons.

Front 15

15 οὐ γὰρ ἐλάβετε πνεῦμα δουλείας πάλιν εἰς φόβον, ἀλλὰ ἐλάβετε πνεῦμα υἱοθεσίας, ἐν ᾧ κράζομεν, Αββα ὁ πατήρ·

Back 15

For you did not receive a spirit of slavery again into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, by which we cry, "Abba father;"

Front 16

16 αὐτὸ τὸ πνεῦμα συμμαρτυρεῖ τῷ πνεύματι ἡμῶν ὅτι ἐσμὲν τέκνα θεοῦ.

Back 16

the spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are God's children.

Front 17

17 εἰ δὲ τέκνα, καὶ κληρονόμοι· κληρονόμοι μὲν θεοῦ, συγκληρονόμοι δὲ Χριστοῦ, εἴπερ συμπάσχομεν ἵνα καὶ συνδοξασθῶμεν.

Back 17

if children, also heirs; on the one hand God's heirs, and on the other hand Christ's co-heirs, if indeed we are suffering together [with him] in order that we might also be glorified together [with him].

Front 18

18 Λογίζομαι γὰρ ὅτι οὐκ ἄξια τὰ παθήματα τοῦ νῦν καιροῦ πρὸς τὴν μέλλουσαν δόξαν ἀποκαλυφθῆναι εἰς ἡμᾶς.

Back 18

For I reckon that sufferings of the present time are not worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed in us.

Front 19

19 ἡ γὰρ ἀποκαραδοκία τῆς κτίσεως τὴν ἀποκάλυψιν τῶν υἱῶν τοῦ θεοῦ ἀπεκδέχεται·

Back 19

For the earnest expectation of the creation is waiting for the reveleation of the sons of God.

Front 20

20 τῇ γὰρ ματαιότητι ἡ κτίσις ὑπετάγη, οὐχ ἑκοῦσα ἀλλὰ διὰ τὸν ὑποτάξαντα, ἐφ’ ἑλπίδι

Back 20

for the creation was subjected to futility (religious error?), not willingly but because of the one who subjected it, in hope

Front 21

21 ὅτι καὶ αὐτὴ ἡ κτίσις ἐλευθερωθήσεται ἀπὸ τῆς δουλείας τῆς φθορᾶς εἰς τὴν ἐλευθερίαν τῆς δόξης τῶν τέκνων τοῦ θεοῦ.

Back 21

that even the creation itself wil be set free from the slavery of the decay into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

Front 22

22 οἴδαμεν γὰρ ὅτι πᾶσα ἡ κτίσις συστενάζει καὶ συνωδίνει ἄχρι τοῦ νῦν·

Back 22

For we know that the whole creation is groans together and labours together until now;

Front 23

23 οὐ μόνον δέ, ἀλλὰ καὶ αὐτοὶ τὴν ἀπαρχὴν τοῦ πνεύματος ἔχοντες ἡμεῖς καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐν ἑαυτοῖς στενάζομεν υἱοθεσίαν ἀπεκδεχόμενοι, τὴν ἀπολύτρωσιν τοῦ σώματος ἡμῶν.

Back 23

not only this, but also we ourselves, having the firstfruits of the spirit, we also groan in ourselves as we await adoption, the redemption of our body.

Front 24

24 τῇ γὰρ ἐλπίδι ἐσώθημεν· ἐλπὶς δὲ βλεπομένη οὐκ ἔστιν ἐλπίς· ὃ γὰρ βλέπει τίς ἐλπίζει;

Back 24

For in this hope we were saved; but a hope being seen is not a hope; for who hopes for what he sees?

Front 25

25 εἰ δὲ ὃ οὐ βλέπομεν ἐλπίζομεν, δι’ ὑπομονῆς ἀπεκδεχόμεθα.

Back 25

but if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with perseverance.
