Babe Ruth

Prohibition
The banning of alcohol in the 1920's because too many people thought that they should stop spending their money on beer, and that drinking was morally wrong
Charles Lindbergh
The first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean nonstop (Rossevelt Field, New York to Paris, France) on the Spirit of St. Louis. He took of on May 20, 1920 and 33.5 hours later landed in Paris, he then became famous rapidly. After all this, he won himself $25,000
Jazz
Music that influenced many people to start listening and to start playing. (Most popular in the 1920's in Harlem)
Fad (1920's)
During the 1920's fads were the popular things, usually "extreme" sports. Also, the fads was the clothing worn. The women had to wear less fabric to save some for the soldiers fighting in the war. The men usually wore baggier clothes. More fads were jazz, they were becuase of the Harlem renaissance, also the charleston was a huge fad, because everyone was doing it, and it was fun to do.
KKK
In the 1920s the KKK reemerged newly energized. It was anti-black, jew, immigrant, and catholic. They held huge rallies thoughout the country. They had such an influence the the politicians had to ally themselves with the KKK or they would lose everytime.
Flapper
a young woman in the 1920s who flaunted her unconventional conduct and dress
NAACP
an organization that tried to protect the constitutional rights of African Americans
Harlem Renaissance
When Harlem produced a bursst of African American cultural activity (Jazz was an activity)
Monkey Trial
an American legal case that tested the Butler Act, which made it unlawful, in any state-funded educational establishment in Tennessee, "to teach any theory that denies the story of the Divine Creation of man as taught in the Bible, and to teach instead that man has descended from a lower order of animals."

a women that worked tirelessly to win for women the right to vote

The Charleston
A dance that was popuralized in the 1920's that was named after Charelston, South Carolina. It required a women to flap her arms (thats where the term flapper came from)
Langston Hughes
a poet, novelist, playwright, journalist, he described the black experience in America. He reached an audience of African Americans and Whites
Speakeasy
A speakeasy was an establishment which illegally sold alcoholic beverages during the Prohibition
Ford Model T
Henry Ford's automobile. It only came in black, and was built on an assembly line.at $850 it was too expensive for many. In 1924 it dropped to $290. Many people were able to buy them.
October 29, 1929 (depression starts)
The market collapsed. Stocks on the New York Stock exchange soon dropped 15 billion dollars in value. Banks closed their doors and businesses went bankrupt. This time was known as the start of the depression.
Racketeer
a person in the 1920's who obtained money illegally
Bootlegger
A person in the 1920's who sold alcohol illegally, (during prohibition). They would supply the speakeasies with the alcohol

Movies
Movies became very popular in the 1920's. they entertained people during the worst of times and the best of times. When the Americans went to the movies they went for a good and relaxing time. Movie awards also known as the Academy Awards started in 1920's and the award show still occurs every year
