what is the basic premises for teaching the elder?
intelligence doesnt decline with age, but the speed by which they process the information does slow down. poor health can interfere with learning. there is a short term memory decline, elders are often not motivated to learn.
when we asses the elderly what do we need to know?
sensory impairment, educational backround, health conditions (are they in pain), physcosocial factors( such as depression), knowledge of the subject matter, their learning style, and can they read.
when making a nursing diagnosis what are three things that we can do for our patient?
1) make sure the issue can be addressed by teaching.
