What is a resultant force?

When two or more forces are applied on the same body to combine to produce a single, resultant force.


It is the overall effect of the forces acting together on a body.

There is a 450N force pulling a lorry to the left. There is a 50N force pulling the same lorry to the right. What is the resultant force?

400N to the left.

There is a 500N force pulling a submarine to the left. A force of 400N is pulling the same submarine in the same direction. What is the resultant force?

900N to the left
