I have followed the previous steps, and I am ready to reinstall OS X. How do I get started? |
Hold down command immediately after turning on or restarting your Mac. This will start OS recovery. Alternatively hold down option command r to start up from OS Internet recovery. |

Start up is complete and I am in the OS X utilities window. What now? |
Choose from one of the following.
Restore from Time Machine backup.
Reinstall OS X.
Get help online.

Newer Mac computers and some older Mac computers automatically try to start from OS X Internet recovery when unable to start from OS X recovery. If that happens, your computer's memory and start up disk or tested before start up completes |

What do I do after I reach the utilities window? |
Open disk utility from the OS X utilities window then erase your built-in hard disk using OS X extended (journaled) format. Quit disk utility when done |

After deleting my hard disk in disk utility, what do I do? |
Choose a reinstall OS X from the OS X utilities window, then follow the on-screen instructions. |

I want to upgrade to the latest version of OS X with the install. How can I do that? |
You can't. You have to upgrade it via the Mac App Store after reinstalling. |

What do I do after it completes? |
When complete, your Mac will restart to a set up assistant. Press command-Q, then click shut down. That way the new owner can complete the steps of the set up assistant using their own information. |
