How long does chronic bronchitis have to occur in order be called chronic?
lasting at least 3 months of the year for 2 years.
What can chronic bronchitis because by?
smoking is one of the main causes.
What exactly is chronic bronchitis?
Chronic inflammation of the bronchi
What happens when the chest muscles contract?
Volume of the lungs expands, and density decreases to below atmospheric then air gets sucked in because Air always goes from a high to low concentration.
What is a pnemo thorax?
A hole in the lungs.
What is a bilateral pneumo thorax?
both lungs are punctured, the person usually dies in this case.
How does the negative chest preasure originate?
at birth.
What is an open pnuemo thorax/ sucking pnemo thoraxx?
It as a hole in the lung caused by a penetrating wound.
IN what respiratory disease do we say air sack dilation, weakening rupturing, and air sack distruction?
emphsema
What causes emphsema?
Smoking
What can alot of air sack distruction cause?
tension pnemothorax
What happens when there is to much air sack destruction and a tension pnemothorax?
A one way valve occurs in the lungs that lets air in but not out. So the lungs keep expanding and expanding, This can cause heart problems and the lung can pop.
What organs are in the chest?
lungs, heart, aorta, vena cava. So when somone has a tension pnumeo thorax all these organs are effected, the bp in the vena ceva goes up rapidly and blood to the heart gets reduced.
What can we do about a tension pnemuthorax?
We insert a chest tube to suck out the excess air.
What is hypoxia?
decreased tissue oxygenation
When does hypoxia occur?
When not enough oxygen goes to the tissue, heart problems, lung problems, blood loss, circulation (blood clot, thrombus, cut off circulation) problems and low hemoglobin.
What is hypoxemic hypoxia?
Insufficent O2 reaching the blood.
causes would be
Decreased O2 in the autmosphere
Pulmonary disease
Airway obstruction
Neuromuscular disease
What is Stagnet Hypoxia?
Failure to delever O2 to tissue because of slow blood flow.
This is caused by
Heart failure
Shock
local disruption of blood flow
Carbon
WHat is anemic hypoxia?
Reduction in the O2 carrying comapcity of blood often caused by
decreased RBC
abnormal hemoglobin
carbon monoxide poisoning
What is histoxic hypoxia?
Impaired utilization of O2 by cell often caused by
cellular poisons (cyanide)
tissue edema
abnormal tissue needs
Where does the right and left side of the heart pump into?
The right pumps into the pulmonary circulation the left pumps to the carotid and the other arteries.
What is the polmanry system?
the lungs and respiratory system.
IF heart failure is a consequence of a respiratory disease what do we call the condition?
cor pulmonale
