A joint is the junction between two or more bones.
Arthrocentesis
is ASPIRATION of SYNOVIAL FLUID.The client receives local anasthesia just before this procedure. The physician inserrts a long needle into the joint and removes fluid.
Arthrogram
An arthrogram is a radiographic examination of a joint, usually the knee or shoulder. The physician injects a local anesthetic and then inserts a needle into the jouint space.Flouroscopy may ve used to verify correct placement of the needle. Synovial fluid in the joint is aspirated and sent to the lab for analysis. Acontrast medium is then injected, and X-rays are taken. After arthrography, the client is informed that theyb may hear crackling or licking for up to 2 days. Noises beyound this time are abnormal and should be reported to the physician.
