Define respiration.
Respiration is the process by which an exchange of gas takes place
What are the two types of respiration?
aerobic
anarobic |
What is aerobic?
Exchange of gas and it uses oxygen
What is anarobic?
No use of oxygen
Yeast and bacteria |
Why do we breathe through our nose?
The nose filters air with the use of hair
It adds moisture with the use of mucus and it warms the air |
What three tubes have cartilage rings?
The trachea and the bronchi
What structure is the function unit of the lung?
Alveoli
What is the respiratory surface in a human ?
aveoli
What are broncheoli?
how does the O2 get to your body cells and CO2 get out of your body?
goes down your trachea then down your bronchi then down your broncheoli and to the aveoli and then your lungs expand pushing the aveoli against the capillary and the O2 diffuses through the capillary and joins the hemoglobin on your red blood cells and it become oxehemoglobin and the HBO2 travels down your blood stream and the O2 gets dropped of at the body cells and CO2 gets picked up and the CO2 joins the water part of plasma and becomes H2CO3 the the CO2 diffuses through the capillary into the aveoli and out of your body
Where are aveoli located?
on the end of broncheoli
What is a respiratory surface?
region where gaseous exchange occurs ( everything has one )
describe a hydra respiratory system?
has no respiratory system but does have a respiratory surface.
What is the hydra respiratory surface?
cell membrane
What type of respiration is a hydra?
aerobic
describe an annalid respiratory system.
ne respiratory system but has a respiratory surface
What is the annalid respiratory surface?
it's moist mucus skin
What type of respiration is an annaild?
aerobic
describe an arthropod respiratory system?
has a respiratory system and a respiratory surface
What is the arthropods respiratory system?
spiracles
What is a spiracle?
They are on the side of the anthropod and oxygen goes in through them and carbon dioxide come out
What does the trachea do in a arthropod?
the trachea slopes at the sinus
What is inspiration?
breathing in
What is expiration?
breathing out
What is the life function of respiration? what organelle Carrys out this function?
release of energy
mitochandra |
What energy form is the mitochandra?
ATP
What is the exchange of atmospheric gas?
breathing
What type of respiration is the kingdom of protista? ( amoeba, euglena, paramecium )
aerobic
What is the respiratory surface of the kingdom protista?
cell membrane
What is an energy used during respiration?
glucose
What type of respiration are plants?
aerobic
What are the plants respiratory surface?
stomates
study picture
What is the medulla?
part of your brain that regulates your breathing by watching your CO2 levels
describe the bell jar diagram.
describe the process of inspiration.
the diaphragm drops down
the volume of chest cavity increases pressure of chest cavity decreases air rushes into the lungs and they expand |
describe the process of expiration?
the diaphragm moves up
the volume of chest cavity decreases the pressure of chest cavity increases the lung collapses and you breath out CO2 |
What must the ideal respiratory system be?
moist
thin close to a transport medium close to a source of gas |
What are the three main parts of respiration in a human? describe them.
external respiration- exchange of gas between the aveoli and capillarys
internal respiration- exchange of gas between the capillary and cell membrane cellular respiration- exchange of gas at the mitochandra |
