Reliablilty

How much we can depend on an particular measurement (e.g. the findings). Any variation in how the research is conducted will reduce the quality of the effects being measured. (Re-test experiments)

Researcher Reliabilty

The extent to which a researcher acts entirely consistently when carrying out an experiment.

Internal Reliabilty

Consistency of measures used in an investigation.

External Reliabilty

Consistency of a measure from one occasion to another.

Inter-Researcher Reliability

When more than one researcher is working on a project, they will need to act in entirely similar ways (carrying out the same procedures etc.)

Can be improved by: careful design of a study(taking into account the issues involved) or careful training of researchers (in the procedures and use of materials)

Split-Half Method

Used to test consistency of items in the same test.

Splits the psychological test/questionnaire into two parts after the data's been collected from participants. The two sets of data are correlated & a strong positive correlation shows it's reliable.

Test-Retest Method

Used to assess the consistency or stability of a psychological test or questionnaire.

Involves presenting the same participants with the same test or questionnaire on two different occasions.
