Patho of ectopic pregnancy

This is when a fertalised ovum implants outsie of the uterine cavity, most commonly in the fallopian tubes. Decreased tubual peristalsis or tubual blockage can cause the zygote to implant before reaching the uterine cavity.

Symptoms of Ectopic pregnancy

haemorrhage causing hypovolaemic shock

Methotrexate

blocks cell proliferation in the S phase of the cell cycle during which DNA replication occurs, making rapidly dividing cells such as trophoblast especially susceptible to its action

Pelvic inflammatory disease

This is an infectious condition that can cause ovarian abscesses to form. It can involve the Fallopian tubes, ovaries and peritoneum. Sexually transmitted disease such as gonorrhea and chlamydia are the common risk factors for this.
