T-EVEN
T2, T4, T6, etc...
What does T-even phages infect?
Different strains of E. coli
T-Even are?
large & complex viruses
Step 1: Absorbtion
Bacteriophage's tail fibers attach to receptors on the host cell & weak chemical bonds are formed
Step 2: Penetration
Phage lowers pins ino hosts cell wall, releases little bit of lysozyme & injects nucleic acid by contracting tail sheath
Capsid remains outside of cell and breaks free
Step 3: Biosynthesis of Viral Components
Viral nucleic acids take over reproductive machinery of host cell, becoming a virus factory
Step 4: Maturation & Assembly
Nucleic Acids, Capsids are assembled into complete virions.
Step 5: Release
Synthesis & release of large qty's of lysozyme, causing host cellwall to breakdown resulting in lysis of cell & release of new formed phage
