Reproduction

Reproduction is the biological process in which new individual organisms are produced

Two types of reproduction

Sexual - the process in which two parents, male and female are required to reproduce

Asexual- process in which an organism reproduces on its own without the help of an other organism..

Sexual reproduction

Two individuals are involved.. each produces a special sex cell known as gamete. Male gamete is know as sperm and female gamete is known as ovum.

Fusion of sperm with the ovum is known as fertilastion. It results in formation of a zygote.

Hermaphrodites

Organisms that contain the male and female gametes in one organism is called hermaphrodite. E.g. leach and earthworm

Types of fertilisation

External fertilisation - the fertilisation where in the fusion of the gametes takes place outside the body of the organism e.g. in a hydra

Internal fertilisation - the fertilisation where in the fusion of the gametes takes place inside the body of the organisms e.g.reptiles and birds

Fertilisation in humans

It is internal

Occurs in the oviduct

Result is an embryo

Organs involved vagina and penis.

Fusion takes place

Zygote to the baby

Zygote=embroyo =foetus=baby

The zygote passes the the uterus it then divides an gain and again to form an embryo the embryo gets embedded in the wall of the uterus this is called Implantation. It the grows for two months and resembles a human it is then called foetus. It takes nine months to grow in to a fully formed baby. This period is known as gestation period

The foetus depends on the mom for

Excretion of wastes

Nutrients

Oxygen

Protection

Name the following

Structure that joins the foetus to the uterus n what joins that structure to it

Placenta and umbilical chord

What protects the foetus

Amniotic fluid contained in a sac called anion and placenta

What is the premeable and what diffuses. Placenta and oxygen nutrients and wastes like carbon dioxide

the period between birth amd fertilisation. Pregnancy
