Angiotensin II

Is a powerful vasoconscrictor that is produced by Angiotensinogen (cleaved by renin)

Renin

Released from juxtamedullary cells in the kidney .

Excellent at finding a drop in BP.

Cleaves Angiotensinogen (from liver) which turns into Angiotensin 1

Angiotensin I

Once activated it converts to Angiotensin II , via ACE (Angiotensin converting enzyme)

Angiotensin II functions

has 4 fxns

Powerful vasoconscrictor that increases BP

Secreted by adrenal cortex . Aldosterone reabsorbs NA as NA moves into blood stream water follows and so blood volume increase and BP increase

Stimulates release of ADH which also promotes water absorption

Stimulates thirst reflex

Ace

Released from lungs

Angiotensinogen

Produced by liver and in circulating blood

Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP)

Released by hearts atria . High BP stretches atrial walls which Stimulates the release of ANP. ANP inhibits production of ADH from the posterior pituitary gland . And also causes Natruiresis (Inc loss of sodium in the urine)

Aldosterone Secreted by ?

Adrenal cortex
